The New Yorker today had an excerpt from Obama's new book A Promised Land. It highlights the work by CEEP affiliate Douglas Almond about the 1918 Influenza Pandemic. Specifically, Obama writes "The effects of the pandemic went beyond the stunning death tolls and the shutdown of economic activity; later research revealed that those who were in utero during the pandemic grew up to have lower incomes, poorer educational outcomes, and higher rates of physical disability."
